Rebranding the Carbon Tax

Trudeau Tries To Distract Canadians By Rebranding Carbon Tax While Canadians Can’t Afford Food
After eight years of Justin Trudeau, life has never been more expensive. Canadians are visiting food banks in record numbers and people are having to choose between filling up their car, heating their home and feeding their family. Thanks to Trudeau’s inflationary carbon tax, a typical family of four will have to pay $700 more in groceries in 2024 compared to last year. Nobody can afford this.
Life has become unaffordable because Trudeau has placed a punitive carbon tax on the essentials that Canadians need to survive. Trudeau doesn’t understand that if you tax the farmer who makes the food and the trucker who ships the food, you tax the person who buys the food. Despite this, on April 1, Trudeau will hike his carbon tax again by 23% as part of his plan to quadruple the tax. This will only increase the misery Canadian families face.
Trudeau knows that Canadians despise the carbon tax. Instead of providing families with the relief they desperately need and axing the tax, the Liberals are now “rebranding” it.
The Canadian standing in line outside of a food bank doesn’t care that the Prime Minister wants them to call this useless policy a “rebate” instead of an “incentive payment.” They just need their groceries to be cheaper. But instead of providing that relief, Trudeau has provided more tax dollars to the costly consultants who came up with this name change.
The Liberals have also decided to re-announce the boost to the measly rural top-up, a move they only made when they saw their poll numbers plummeting last October and needed to pretend that they cared about Canadians outside of Atlantic Canada. This top-up will only give $6 to Canadians in New Brunswick, 8 dollars extra to residents of Ontario, and $13 extra to residents in Alberta. This isn’t even enough to buy lunch. And even after this, the independent Parliamentary Budget Officer says that most Canadians are still paying more in the carbon tax than they get back in rebates.
This is just another desperate attempt from the Liberals to distract Canadians from the misery Trudeau is causing. Only Common Sense Conservatives will scrap the carbon tax entirely so Canadians can afford to eat, heat and house themselves.
