Today I voted in favour of the Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act which seeks to protect Canadian children from accessing pornographic material online by requiring age-verification. Just as we restrict children from the purchase of cigarettes, alcohol and cannabis, or to participate in gambling, this Bill seeks to restrict children from viewing harmful explicit material online. If passed into law, this Act will impose accountability on pornographic websites to restrict their explicit material from being accessed by children in Canada.
