Flight 752

Dear Friends,

At a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Canadians that Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 appears to have been shot down by Iran.

“The evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile”, said the Prime Minister. He continued: “This may well have been unintentional” and that “this new information reinforces the need for a thorough investigation into this matter.”

All 176 souls on board perished, including 57 Canadians. Many of those Canadians were returning home from a wedding.

Iran has so far refused to release the aircraft’s black box so that a full investigation can take place.

The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Bezan, Shadow Minister for National Defence, Todd Doherty, Shadow Minister for Transport, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Safety, released the following statement regarding Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752:

“Today’s reports that Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down by the Iranian regime are extremely disturbing. Canadians deserve answers, and they deserve them now.

“The Liberal government must hold to account those who are responsible for this tragedy. The government must immediately implement the Conservative motion passed by Parliament in 2018 to list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp. as a terrorist organization.

“We call on Iranian officials to fully cooperate with the international investigation, which includes handing over the aircraft’s black boxes.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers remain with the families of those who perished.”

As the Prime Minister and the Shadow Ministers said, there must be a full investigation so those responsible can be held to account. The families of the deceased deserve justice.

I hope this information has been of interest to you.

Sincerely,

Kelly Block, MP
