Dear Friends,
This past Sunday saw the Conservative Party of Canada elect a new leader. What an exciting day it was. I was honoured to participate in the results event, together with my colleague Randy Hoback representing Saskatchewan.
As you are aware, Erin O'Toole was the successful candidate with a decisive victory.
I would first like to congratulate him, his entire team and family on their successful campaign. My thanks also go out to all those who helped make this happen, including the other three candidates: Peter Mackay, Leslyn Lewis and Derek Sloan. All ran impressive campaigns and should be proud of the teams they built.
The challenges of this pandemic led many, including in the media, to claim that the Conservative Party would not be able to run a serious national campaign. And yet, despite some delays, we ran the largest leadership race in Canadian history, with over 175,000 votes cast, and elected a new Leader of the Conservatives who found a way to speak to Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
Erin is a hard worker with great experience both inside and out of politics. He is a veteran who served our country with dedication long before he stood for election as a Member of Parliament. While there is much work to be done, I am sure that Erin is up to the task. I look forward to working with him to unite our country and ensure prosperity for all Canadians.
Congratulations, Erin!
Sincerely,
Kelly Block, MP
